Families Like Ours

"At the time, we spoke to many experts, and they told us this could never happen. That was seven years ago. I don’t know what they would say today..." -T. Vinterberg

“Formally, FAMILIES LIKE OURS avoids the typical visual grammar of disaster cinema. There are no CGI-rendered tidal waves or explosive set pieces. Instead, the show relies on haunting aerial shots of familiar Danish landscapes — iconic streets in Copenhagen slowly submerged, neighborhoods eerily abandoned. There are also many panning shots that serve to indicate big groups moving and provide the sense of “awe”. Denmark itself becomes, one could argue, an object of the sublime, evoking both awe and loss in its gradual disappearance.” -on Medium
